That's what it's all about
What if the collapse wasn't the end, but the beginning of something new?
Das Erdreich takes you on a theatrical bus trip to the Rhenish lignite mining area. Where excavators tore deep gashes in the earth for decades, something unexpected is emerging today: in the almost abandoned village of Bürgewald on the edge of the Hambach open-cast mine, decay becomes a creative force.
Why you have to come along
The three-hour expedition leads to hidden places of transformation. Equipped with audio guides, you will meet beings who create something new from decomposition: Scientists who learn from the wisdom of the earth; inhabitants who test new forms of democratic interaction with the soil; a mysterious fungus that transforms landscape and people.
Immerse yourself in the earth, in the hidden world beneath our feet - where the network of life teaches us how collapse becomes future. An immersive performance about change, visions and the transformative power of the earth.
